Add An Historical Venture: Tour of MD Statehouse to calendar An Historical Venture: Tour of MD Statehouse

Join alumni and friends in the area for a one-hour tour of the Maryland Statehouse

Archives Informative Learning experience presentation crossing 400 years of the Statehouse where the Maryland legislature meets. This National historic landmark was designated by the Department of Interior in 1960 the same day as Mount Vernon and Monticello.

After the tour, everyone is invited to Rams Head Tavern Pub, walking distance from the State House and have drinks or/and dinner and catch up.

Homecoming is more than just a gathering of Black folks to have fun and and get down; it's a celebration of the Black experience, pride and fellowship at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs); it's an autumn family reunion with buffets, sporting events, parades, step shows and so much more. Besides being a week where students can take a breather from coursework, it's also a crucial period for current students, alumni and visitors to catch up, to embrace the progress of said institutions, and to express gratitude for such opportunities.

The keynote address will be delivered by Quinnton Harris '11. 

Quinnton is a designer, photographer, strategist and entrepreneur living in the San Francisco Bay. He currently serve as the inaugural Creative Director at Blavity, Inc, a venture-backed multimedia company that drives innovation and culture through original storytelling and experiences. In addition to establishing the Creative team at the company, he's worked to enhance and optimize the quality of Blavity's content and digitals platforms across all of its media properties (Blavity News, 21Ninety, AfroTech, Travel Noire, and Shadow & Act). 

Prior to this role, Quinnton led Creative at Walker & Company Brands, recently acquired by Proctor and Gamble, where he designed health and beauty product experiences for people of color. There he launched Form Beauty, driving the branding and design strategy. He also designed the .com experience for the Bevel brand.
And before moving to Silicon Valley, Quinnton worked in advertising as an art director and digital product designer for brands like American Express, Taco Bell, Pitney Bowes, Athena and Bank of America. He started in the advertising industry at DigitasLBi, interning in Summer 2010 and then working as a Art Director in both Boston and New York.

The keynote address will be delivered by Judge Leslye Fraser '78, SM '80, Environmental Appeals Judge (EPA) and former Associate Director for Regulations in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (FDA).  Judge Fraser received BS and SM degrees in chemical engineering from MIT and a Juris Doctor degree, Order of the Coif, from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law.  Throughout her career she has received numerous awards, including the 2006 Meritorious Presidential Rank Award, which the President awards each year to a small group of federal career senior executives who “consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, industry, and a relentless commitment to excellence in public service.”

We will gather at noon on the 4th, at Maseeh Hall (305 Memorial Drive) for a catered lunch. The cost will be $25 per adult, free for MIT Students and children under 18. To help us defray the costs, we ask alumni to please add a few dollars more to your registration.

We hope to continue the festivities in the evening with a potluck dinner at the BSU lounge starting at 5pm. You may wish to attend both the BBQue and the potluck or one or the other.

Important Note:
An accurate list of attendees will be required to get access into Maseeh Hall, so please be sure to register all the names of your family/guests coming with you.
